Michael Treacy and Fred Wiersema released their book "THE DISCIPLINE of MARKET LEADERS" in 1995 (yep - that's the OLD) however the preface to their book which was printed on the eve of Google, before facebook, instagram and Pinterest etc, is far more relevant today (the NEW) than it was when they published.

  • Value-Driven Operating Model: what you do and how you do it to achieve your proposition

You need to be good at something:
Treacy & Wiersema make the point that there are 3 disciplines addressed my market leaders.  You need to be at least as good as everybody else at two of the disciplined and better than anybody else at one of the disciplines.
